Why Ethics and Culture Building? Having been a General Manager for a Fortune 25 company, a facilitator for the worlds largest adventure-based training and education organization, and now a trainer/consultant for my own firm, I have observed many leaders, senior management groups and teams in difficult decision-making situations. Over time, I realized that the highest performing groups were explicit about their goals, roles, process, and values. These people and groups not only knew their shared ethical values, but also expressed these values in all aspects of their task management. In short, they displayed a values-based, performance-driven culture that was the foundation for their effectiveness whether in the office or circumnavigating an island in square-rigged sailing boats. Especially in todays world, an organization that demonstrates steady, sound ethics/values not only becomes the employer of choice, but also becomes the supplier and provider of choice.
